A snapshot on day 66 of quarantine

THINGS I’M ESPECIALLY MISSING

  • My yoga studio (streaming is not for me; I badly need the corrections and the peer pressure)

  • My acting class (both the people and the challenge)

  • The library (walking there, browsing, and having ample supply for my voracious habit)

  • Hanging with my best friend (sigh)

GOOD HABITS I’VE RESUMED

  • Daily walks

  • Meditation

  • Swimming

  • Writing

BAD HABITS I’M FIGHTING NOT TO RESUME

  • Overindulging in food and wine

  • Overthinking

  • Sloth

THINGS THAT MAY NEVER HAVE HAPPENED OTHERWISE

  • BJs membership (my favorite new source of all things bulk and delivered)

  • Cardinals (I frequently meet one of these purported messengers of the dear departed when outside)

  • Candles (actually burning them is a lovely reminder to focus on the present moment)

  • Neglected books (without the library, I’ve been forced to read the books I bought and never read)

  • Pickling veggies (can’t say it’s something I’d do regularly, but it was fun and successful)

  • Rock painting (great for its simplicity and minimal commitment of prep, clean-up, and money)

  • Reading aloud (the CWP and I are currently taking turns reading Little Women)

  • Neighbors (we had those drinks, in our driveways, we’d talked about since I arrived two years ago)

  • Cooking (surely there’s never been a 60+ day period in which I’ve only missed one day)

  • Salon days (the benefits of living with a cosmetologist)

  • Snail mail (actually sending some of those cards I unearthed gives me and the recipient a boost)

  • Power naps (blessed that I can recharge in 20 minutes as our schedules have become erratic)

  • Happy hour/board games (my favorite time of day as the CWP and I transition to the evening)

THINGS I’M ESPECIALLY GRATEFUL FOR

  • Instacart (I can’t imagine why I didn’t always have my groceries schlepped and delivered for me)

  • Physical and financial security (really, just imagine)

  • Warm weather (it snowed in New England just over a week ago)

  • Previous experience (thanks to chronic illness, we excel at being flexible in the face of uncertainty)

  • The Celtic Warrior Princess (my teammate, my inspiration, my heart, my very own silver lining)
